ETHIOPIA
In 2009, Sara was given the humbling opportunity to join a team from Prague in partnering with an Ethiopan organization that provides career training and humanitarian aid to a local Addis Ababa community. Sara was asked to capture the lives of the locals and provide portraits of children to assist in raising additional aid. Aid includes medication, vitamins, food, clothing and school supplies. The community primarily survives by repurposing items from the city's exterior landfills. The local organization works strenuously to provide job training for both men and women, offering small business loans to stimulated entrepreneurship, that when repaid, is circulated back into career training.
When a person experiences a unique dynamic culture different from their own, it not only expands sight but also spirit. My world and my heart grew exponentially when I met the Addis Ababa community. I intended to give them assistance, when instead it was I that was nourished.
